What does “yksi” mean?

Why's our name yksi? It's the Finnish word for 'one' and sure, we could spout some story about our founder's love for Viking facts (also true), but really, it's because those Nordics know how to prioritise 'me time'. That whole privacy thing is vital in Finnish culture and with yksi as our name, you're the one who controls access to your data and how it's used. It's private and always anonymous. Just the way the Fins like it.

How does yksi work? Why should I care?

Yksi is a transparent data marketplace that connects you with companies that want your data. Your data is the driving force behind a lot of the decisions that your favourite brands make. It helps them launch products, enter new markets, create advertising campaigns, and design their promotions.

But a lot of brands can't get to you and pay you for your data, so they go to third parties. Companies who extract that data by any means necessary (usually without paying you) and sell it for huge profits. We are here to change that. We want YOU to be the beneficiary of YOUR data. Making profit if and when you choose to share your data with the brands of your choice.

How does yksi make money?

Our business model is straightforward and transparent. When companies request data from us, they pay an amount. This amount is then passed on to you. We take 12.5% of that amount as service fee. When you withdraw that money, we take another 12.5% of your withdrawal amount as processing fee.

How is my data being used?

Your data will be used for market research purposes. We aggregate your purchase info with millions of other purchases. Your personal information is also de-identified in the process, meaning we do not use your personal information in market research.

In addition, you also get to choose how much you want to share, with which companies and for what purpose. In the traditional way, your data is usually collected via different channels, such as websites and apps, without you knowing. It is then aggregated and sold to companies who need it. The thing is, you did not benefit from this at all.

Is yksi safe to use?

When you send your data to yksi, you can be sure that it will not be leaked or passed on to third parties without your permission. All personal information, such as your name, email, address and phone number, will not be stored or be visible to any companies requesting the data.

It’s rooted deeply in our company culture to take user privacy seriously. All sensitive data is encrypted. Relevant employees who have access also need to go through extensive privacy training and sign legally binding confidential agreements. Apart from these basic protocols, we also have a team of highly skilled engineers who regularly conduct security diagnostics and system vulnerability assessments.

How do I sign up for yksi?

yksi is currently only available to a limited number of customers in the UK. Join the waitlist first, and we will let you know via email when space becomes available. When you receive an invitation to join, you will get a link to download the app on App Store or Play Store.

What types of purchases are eligible?

yksi accepts all kinds of purchase data, online and offline. In addition, you can also make money by doing surveys or other activities, such as sharing your opinion on ads, as requested by the brands.
